Every project begins with the history and the everyday life that will unfold there. Whether working with an existing building or creating something new, we design spaces that feel rooted, intentional and deeply connected to their surroundings.
Who We Are

Design rooted in history and adaptation.
Our work is research led and preservation minded but never frozen in the past. We use archival research, observation, documentation and design visioning to understand what gives a project meaning. From there, we preserve what matters, clarify what needs to change and carefully shape spaces for future life.

Place
Every project belongs somewhere. We design with attention to land, light, climate, neighborhood, street, and context so each space feels rooted rather than imposed.
Memory
Buildings and sites carry traces of people, time, labor, rituals, and materials. We look for those layers and use them as a foundation for design.
Care
We believe good design begins with patience. We study what is already there before deciding what should be restored, adapted, removed, or added.
Adaptation
Architecture should support life as it changes. We help existing buildings, homes, and sites evolve while keeping their most meaningful qualities visible.
Future Life
Design is not only about preserving the past. It is about making room for new rituals, new uses, new families, new gatherings, and new ways of living.

MAFI Design grew from a love of places with history, character, and untapped potential — old homes, civic buildings, layered sites, forgotten details, and everyday spaces that still have something to say.
Our work is shaped by the belief that a place is never blank. Every building carries stories through its materials, proportions, use, and context. We are interested in architecture that listens first, then responds with intention.
From historic rehabilitation and adaptive reuse to interiors, ADUs, additions, and new construction, MAFI Design explores how places can evolve with care — carrying memory forward while making room for contemporary life.
